“Significant Meteorological Information” is defined by ICAO as information concerning en-route weather phenomena which may affect the safety of aircraft operations.
SIGMETs, provided by NOAA, are published by Laminar Data through a number of RESTful APIs providing access to the complete list of SIGMETs by ICAO region or by specific ID.
Our SIGMETs by ICAO Prefix API allows you to access the SIGMET data by a specific ICAO region. For example, by requesting /v1/icao-prefixes/L/sigmets you are able to see all SIGMETs within the ICAO prefix L:
... ... ... ... ...
If you are interested in a specific SIGMET message, you can use our SIGMETs by ID API to access the data by the SIGMET ID. For example, by requesting /v1/sigmets/e72fa695-8b46-5a33-809d-e5af1bbb1850 you are able to see all SIGMET information for that specific ID.

SIGMETs that affect a specific area contain GML geometry. This allows allows you to visualize the area of affect in any visualization tool. For example, the visualization below shows a SIGMET affecting the Ankara Airspace “LTAA Ankara”.
We’re always looking to hear feedback on how we can enhance our APIs and make them work for you. Please get in touch with us and let us know your thoughts.
